OLA Block X Artisanal Olive Oil

This unique, heirloom olive oil is history in a bottle, and our current favorite out of all of the olive oils we've tried. From a centuries old California olive grove in the heart of what was once the olive capital of the world, comes a beautifully balanced olive oil with big full fruity flavor and notes of grass and floral.  This is the kind of olive oil that you want to sop up with bits of bread until you are scraping the bowl clean and drizzle over everything! It's easy to see why it has been collecting gold medals from the moment it was released. We have a very small amount of these special tins so grab them fast.

It all began when husband and wife team Giulio and Rachelle purchased a neglected olive orchard with a historic past and 100 year trees. Giulio started experimenting with blending oils from the fruit of these long abandoned trees and created this incredible olive oil. These old trees create an oil with characteristics that can't be found elsewhere. They called it Block X because the fruit was coming from offshoots of trees so old they had to do DNA testing to identify them. It turned out that 9 unique types of olives, offshoots of original sevillano and manzanilla had found new life in Block X.

    ABOUT OLIVAIA

Olivaia is a small batch producer of estate extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and a grower of the historic ‘California Ripe Olive’ in the Lindsay area, formerly known as the ‘olive capital of the world’. Olivaia started in 2012 with the purchase of a mature olive grove with many neglected trees over 100 years old, today known as Block X because of its unique heirloom cultivars.  Using their golden history as their groundwork, they immediately began rehabilitating the trees, trees that would have otherwise headed towards mulch for more lucrative crops like citrus or almonds. Inspired by history, both trees and locale, they not only re-established ties with the table olive sector but in 2017 embarked on an oil mission to put 'history in a bottle'. After all, the orchard has been the home to many of California’s original olives. Their EVOO's fruit forward attributes make them ideal healthy flavor enhancers that pair uniquely with your favorite food.

A tasty way to support some heritage trees

I am a major olive oil bread dipper, and this oil was light but still rich. Vibrant aftertaste of peppery/grassy tones. Kudos to the owners/producers for reviving these olive trees and with it, a sensational product.
