Rancho Gordo Limited Edition Collection

This limited edition collection of rare heirloom beans from Rancho Gordo is like a big box of love for gourmands and bean fanatics. It contains 4 of our all time favorites including the very illusive Santanero Negro Delgado previously only available in the Rancho Gordo bean club. We have a small amount of these available and when they're gone, they're gone!

SANTANERO NEGRO DELGADO BEANS

The Santanero is a favorite black bean from Oaxaca, a place where black beans are practically a religion. They are renown for the delectable soupy liquid they give off so they are best prepared simply as a pot of beans. Enjoy them as a side sprinkled with some cheese, cilantro or use them in burritos, tacos and salads.

SCARLET RUNNER BEANS

Scarlet runner bean, Phaseolus coccineus, is native to the mountains of Mexico and Central America, growing at higher elevations than the common bean. It's is the show off of beans producing gorgeous bright red flowers on the vine and large beans mottled with purple and black. Like many runner beans, scarlet is large and a tad starchy with a texture similar to potato. They have a nutty, almost meaty flavor making it a fantastic meat substitute in vegan cooking. We've been sautéing it with mushrooms, tomatoes and greens from the garden as we would with the Christmas Lima because they have a similar flavor profile.

BUCKEYE

Most people know this little golden bean by the not so politically correct name, Yellow Indian Woman but in 2020 Rancho Gordo adopted one of her other more culturally sensitive names, Buckeye. Whatever the name, this bean is incredibly creamy, almost more like a classic black turtle bean than anything else. It's dense without being intense. It's thought to be originally from Montana, known for its short growing season. This is one of the staff favorite, It’s creamy texture make it ideal as a bean dip, soup, and in salads. We also love them cooked up with the Meyer Lemon Sea Salt + Thyme  as a delicious pot of lemony beans.

CRANBERRY BEANS

This versatile and velvety, thin-skinned bean produces a rich, indulgent bean broth. While Cranberry is an odd name for a lovely, versatile bean which has been bred around the world to become Madeira, Borlotti, Tounges of Fire, Wren’s Egg and more. With so many names, it's clear it can be used in almost any dish that beans are needed for.  Try this in a traditional Pasta e Fagioli where the luxurious bean sauce the cranberry gives off really shines. It's also a great bean to use in any soup.
